May 26 2010 Newsletter

Wednesday,  May 26, 2010

Greetings 2010 CSA Members,

Wednesday June 2 will be the first pick-up for the 2010 season. We have had a very busy Spring attempting to keep up with the temperatures climbing into the July nineties and sinking to 23 degrees two weeks ago. We are grateful that we were not hurt as badly as the fruit growers. Apples in particular were hit very badly. We did lose a few strawberries and we had to re-plant corn. The falling dry leaves from our flowering trees that grace this farm are a sad reminder of how much we are at the mercy of the elements.  On another note, I am happy that the CSA model continues to grow throughout the country. We have a total of 480 members this year with 12 distribution sites. Brian and I thank you all for your support and faith in what we do.

Each week throughout the season, I will email to you a newsletter with some tidbits about the farm, a list of what will be in your CSA box, and a recipe or two. Here are a few things to remember as the season begins:

Please read the CSA handbook on our website.
Please come visit, but call in advance and come on any day but Sunday.
Please respect your host site and leave it clean and tidy each week.
Please respect the pick-up hours of 4:00-8:00 at most sites.
Please have a neighbor or friend pick up your share if you cannot.
Please be responsible for your payments/installments.
Please flatten the boxes and leave in a neat pile from week to week.
(A video is provided on our website to walk you through the process)
Please check your spam/junk mail for CSA newsletters and updates.
In addition, check the website and Facebook for updates. If you have any questions about your pick-up site, payments, hours for pick-up, etc - now is the time to email me or call me (664-2510).
And finally, thank you all for the out-pouring of warmth and the lovely notes that you have sent with your membership forms. Our partnership and the friendships formed are what nourish us and keep us motivated on the hottest of days with a multitude of bugs or on the coldest of evenings with our wet toes and a frost looming.

Here’s to a bountiful season ahead
